Position You're Applying For: SortedChallenge Mod
Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms?</b> No, but I do own a Flourish shop and run a club.
How much availability do you have in an average week for performing mod duties? Way too much! I'm always online, unless I'm sleeping.
Have you participated in this community before? Yes, every challenge since I joined.
Suggest three challenges for use in this community:
1. Inter-house Relations: Icon must include image with members of at least two houses -- but it has to be in a friendly setting. No fighting, or hostile scenes (unless they're fighting together and not with one another). They don't have to be in house uniform, as long as it's well known what house they're in.
2. No Eyes: No eyes can be visible in the icon you make; and there's many different ways of doing this. You can either crop it in an interesting way so there are no eyes, you can you text, brushes, a texture.. Anything you can think of as long as no eyes are visible -- however, this doesn't mean just eyes closed.
3. Meaning of a Name: Many of the characters in Harry Potter are named after certain things; Sirius after a constellation, Dumbledore means bee... So the challenge is to somehow express with a single character what their name means -- wanna make an icon of Dumbledore with a bumblebee by his head? Go right ahead! This challenge is pretty open to interpretation, but it should stand to be fairly obvious what their name means to those voting. This list might be especially helpful in doing this challenge.
If there is a dispute about points or the challenges within this community, how would you handle it?
Points and challenges I would handle differently. If someone mentioned something wrong with the points, I would double check my work -- I'm not perfect and I may have very well made a mistake. If I did, I'd fix it. If not, I'd let them know that I went over everything again and still got the same result. If they still pushed, I would ask the other mod to look it over.
The issues I imagine could come from the challenges themselves are either someone not understanding the challenge or someone not following the challenges given. To avoid someone misunderstanding a challenge, I will try to be as direct and clear regarding the challenge itself in the main post. If there are still questions or issues, I will explain it to them best I can. I don't see much issue coming from that, as long as I am consistent. In regards to the possibility of someone submitting icons that I do not see as being related to the challenge, I'll ask them about them. Perhaps they just interpret the challenge different than me, which if perfectly fine. I'll allow that, as long as it still makes sense to me in the end -- after all, the icons are chosen by other users, not by me. If it still doesn't make sense with the challenge, I will ask them to please submit new icons so they can still participate.
Why are you interested in being the mod for this community/contest? I love the challenges and think it would be really fun to come up with my own. And really, it just sounds like a fun things to run! :D

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? Terms XII, XIII, and XIV.
How much availability do you have in an average week for performing mod duties? Hours per day.
Have you participated in this community before? I have submitted icons every single week without fail since the beginning of Term XII, and I have moderated this community since the beginning of Term XII.
Suggest three challenges for use in this community:
1. Devotion. You may also use a synonym or other related theme. The word itself does not have to appear on the icon, but the icon must center around this theme.
2. Color Splash. Your icon must be almost entirely black/white/greyscale. You may use only one color on your icon. This is typically done with a light texture, but it doesn't have to be.
3. Ships. Your icon must feature a pairing. It may be canon, slash, common, or uncommon, or even a threesome/moresome, as long as your icon is clear on who is being 'shipped.
</nobr></td></tr><tr><td>If there is a dispute about points or the challenges within this community, how would you handle it? This has occurred in the past. I have a lot of experience moderating icon contests-- years, in fact-- in communities apart from HiH. This gives me a lot of perspective on how to handle icontest disputes within HiH because there is very little I have not seen before, and in instances where there was no house affiliation to cloud my judgment. The most serious type of conflict could be the accusation of miscounted votes. In that case, I would re-tally the votes to be sure, and I would also happily unscreen the voting to the aggrieved party can count the votes as well. Other instances of cheating might come up: members sharing their icons before voting, members using someone else's icon as a base, members asking friends to vote for them. These are things I have seen at other icontests, and because I've seen them before, I feel I am pretty wise to how to catch them and how to deal with them. This term I was pleased to work with another experiences icontest moderator, and I used her advice on several occasions. As a last result, the community [info]mod_discussion is a community for icontest moderators to share their issues and ask for advice. I am a member there and have seen the advice given there, and I would feel comfortable asking for advice there as well.
Why are you interested in being the mod for this community/contest? I adore icon contests. I love picking themes. My favorite part, though, is tallying the votes. It's like watching something unfold in real time, and there's this tension about who will win. Even once the votes are tallied, I only know which number icon won, and then I look at the icon, and at who made it, and it is, for me, a very exciting reveal. I like working with the numbers and seeing which house submitted the most icons, and whether their participation was enough to outweigh victories of other houses. I like watching trends in the participation of different houses. The conflicts that sometimes arise are probably the only thing I don't love about it. Still, I have moderated this community successfully, never missing a week in three terms, and through several moderator changes, including having to go it solo for a while. Never once has any serious drama come out of this community while I moderated it, and we've all had a lot of fun. I think that speaks for itself. This coming term, if I am re-elected, one thing I would like to do differently is let the members vote on banners for their banner makers.

I realize this application was perhaps not as anonymous as they are meant to be, but I do believe there are instances when our personal records do speak louder than words. I would like people to vote on my record. If they feel I have done a good job, I'd like them to vote for me to return. If they feel that I have not done a good job, then I hope they will elect someone with a better application. I can't pretend I don't have three terms of record behind me to speak for me.

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? four terms
How much availability do you have in an average week for performing mod duties? loads of availablity
Have you participated in this community before? I sure have.
Suggest three challenges for use in this community:
1) Splash of color (must be b/w with only the color splash)
2) Foreign language (cannot have american/british english anywhere on the icon)
3) Lyrics (have to use a certain amount of words from a song/poem)

If there is a dispute about points or the challenges within this community, how would you handle it? Make sure that there really is a problem first and if there is to bring it to my co-mods attention. Then try and figure out what happened and how we need to fix it.
Why are you interested in being the mod for this community/contest? I love making icons and it'd be cool to see what others come up with. I also enjoy coming up with challenge ideas.
