Slytherin Prefect

Pleae pick.

A

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? No, its the first time I apply and I am really looking forward for getting elected! :D
Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active? I plan on taking back the slytherin purest contest, which rewards the most active member. Also the snake mafia week, weekly rosters and reminders, friday social post and weekly in-house discussions, polls about different things that my interest my house mates. I have some activities in mind in case I get elected.. like book discussion (outside HP), movie reviews... I will make a post asking people what would they want to do and see in the community. Everyone should have a voice on deciding what they want to do in our house.
How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house? I am online everyday 4 hours minimum so I am always available for people and activities. (I am unemployed and I live attached to my pc, as sadly as that is). In the event I get a job, which doesn´t look probable for at least another 6 months, I would have the full weekend and some 2 hours daily anyway. I check my email very often.
How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter? I think I have always been top sorter since I joined.
How would you handle a conflict/dispute?: Considering i am applying for prefect, I assume the dispute would be in-house. I must say the slytherins don´t often have disputes (it at all) and I have faith that in the case of one, we are mature enough to solve it without (too much) blood being involved, but, in that case, I would address both parties personally, listen to their points of view from an objetive position and try to come to a rational solution. I will take my whip out if things get nasty though!. In the case it involves other houses, I would do the same, AND contact the prefect from the other houses to explain what is going on so I could get their support in solving the problem asap.
Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect? I love the community, i am very active and would like to do something for my amazing house. I feel I have a lot to offer, new ideas, ambition and time for it!

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? I have not - this will be my first term applying. I wanted to wait until I really knew what I was getting into.
Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active? There are a couple of things that seemed to have died out in the common room - where is bunny mondays? And Slytherin's purest? How about discussions just about how great we are? But more importantly, I want ideas from everyone. It's about all the Slytherins, and not just a prefect.
How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house? Email is up all day a work, so if there is a general problem ever, I could be made aware easily. I could also update sorting logs once the boss is back in his office... 0.o
How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter? I am always top sorter, except for the two weeks about a month ago when my life turned into a Shakespearean Tragedy.
How would you handle a conflict/dispute?: With grace and all things that make a Slytherin a Slytherin.
Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect? Because it's time to put my big girl pants on!

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? I have been a club leader for the past 2 terms.
Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active? One of the things I love about Slytherin is how active our common room is. We are often sharing videos/gifs/macros/articles with each other and discussing them. I would love to see this continue, and of course I'll participate in that regardless of whether I'm prefect or not. We have a lot of pride as a house and I would do my best to keep building that up with our members.
How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house? I'm literally online around 16 hours a day, basically doing nothing. So I will be available a WHOLE LOT for my fellow Slytherins if they need help. I'm available by chat, LJ message, email, text, everything really. I have all of that on my phone just in case I get a life and leave the house. :)
How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter? I sort every week. Since I joined HiH in October 2008, I think I've missed 1 week of sorting. I'm almost always Top Sorter.
How would you handle a conflict/dispute?: I'm a firm believer in taking a step back and a 24 hour break before confronting an issue. (That being said, I haven't always stuck to that belief, but that doesn't stop me from believing it. :P ) I'm a straightforward, honest person, and I use that during conflict resolution. I am good at keeping calm and trying to see both sides of the issue, and I always strive to reach a happy medium for everyone involved.
Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect? As I said before, I love my house. I've enjoyed some great friendships within the house, and I love the amount of house pride and camaraderie that Slytherin has. As cheesy as it sounds, I would love an opportunity to serve Slytherin (and by extension, HiH) in any way I can.

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? Yes - Prefect for two terms, and another mod position for two terms.
Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active?
The thing that makes Slytherin so amazing is how close-knit we all are. I'd like to focus on maintaining that closeness by reviving Slytherin Club Night and also having a game or meme night as often as people can play. I'd also like to continue the newly-formed idea of having a Slytherin chat active on AIM all the time where snakes can go and relax. I would really like to campaign for Prefect's helpers (like those who run the writing prompts) to get a little recognition (in knuts) and appoint people to run the Birthday Committee, since I think wishing people a happy birthday is a very simple thing which can really make you feel closer. (And having had this position before, I know delegating small duties is the best way to ensure that everything runs smoothly.)

I would definitely keep Snake Mafia Week going in alternate months (to balance Hogsmeade) and come up with more exciting activities for that. I would also work to ensure that Slytherin's Purest went up promptly with the points announcements to show people recognition for their hard work. I think it would also be fun to have a monthly puzzle or the like, just for fun, like a riddle in the Chamber of Secrets or the like, with a reward of a gift from Diagon Alley. (We could ask the Diagon Mod to stock some gift items like "Slytherin's Purest" pins or small trophies or the like!)

I'd also continue the writing prompts and I'm currently working with a member to also have team writing prompts. And most excitingly, I'm in the process of planning a Slytherins-only original character RPG which should help foster a sense of house camaraderie!

How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house?
I will be able to update the sorting log and slytherprompt frequently, and will be around almost 24/7 to answer questions or help with problems. (Even when I am in class, I'm online.)

How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter?
This has varied the last month or two since I've had a lot of real-life craziness. Usually I am Top Sorter every week, though lately I've only been hitting every other week. Once I'm moved and school starts up again I'll be back to a regular schedule, though. :)

How would you handle a conflict/dispute?:
Be polite - no matter what. Listen to the complaints and ask questions to get as many details as possible. Give each side a chance to fully explain; sometimes just feeling like you're getting a chance to air your grievances can help a lot. I would work with the individuals with the problem to try to come up with a solution that appeased everyone, while bearing in mind my duty to the comm and to keep things fair. If the dispute was with a member of another house, I would encourage my snakes to stay polite and say as little as possible, and would either talk to the other person's prefect or an HiH mod myself or encourage the snake with the problem to do so. My goals in conflicts are to try to be fair, make everyone feel as though they've been heard and find a suitable outcome, and most importantly to avoid drama or embroiling Slytherin in it. We have a reputation to maintain.

Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect?
I love this house. Honestly, I have never before felt such a strong sense of community and camaraderie in an online group, and I love working with you all and helping ensure that the House Cup stays in the Dungeons where it belongs.

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? Although I haven't been in any officials positions yet here at HiH, I'm the most active Slytherin member I know. I'm also a member of the Order of the Phoenix, a writer for the Daily Prophet, and a very active shopkeeper.
Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active? From my experience as a member of this wonderful House, Slytherins often need social activities in order to bond together. While we used to have a lot of them in the past, lately this has been lacking, and that has resulted in new members feeling alientated from the rest of the House. Things such as Slytherin Club Nights, for example, should be brought back and used on a regular basis, as it always gave people the opportunity to get to know each other better, discuss various off-topic subjects and just have fun. I would love to do more in-House social memes, picspams and games, and bring back a feeling of unity in the House because that is what makes Slytherin such a great place to be in. We would also continue the newest trend of having in-House online chats as often as people wanted to have them, as they have proven to be a great success.

I'd also want to bring back the Slytherin's Purest award, which hasn't been used since April. It was a great way to motivate peple to participate in activities, since at the end of the month, the most active Slytherin would receive a shiny banner and 50 points bought for them by their Prefects. I've noticed that people need things like these sometimes in order to be motivated, but what really does the trick is the sense of in-House unity. That is where all the non-points earning social activities come in, which would be there just for people to have fun, and bond together.

Another thing that I would like to change is our intro survey. We discussed changing it some time ago, but nothing really happened there, and I definitely think that it's time to freshen it up a bit and make it more welcoming for the new Slytherin members.
How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house? I'm online, and on Livejournal, every single day. As I said previously, I'm one of those people you can always see around the community doing something. I love this community dearly and I'm very active in it, which is why it would be no problem for me at all to keep track of sorting logs and other things that need to be doing.

In fact, over these past couple of months, I have taken on a lot of Prefect duties already such as posting sorting logs, reminders and Slytherprompts. I've done this with the consent of the reigning Prefects whenever they have been indisposed, because I love motivating people. And my fellow Housemates have often come up to me to thank me for what I do, since it encourages them and helps them to keep track of activities. For me it is completely natural to do whatever I can to help my House, and my analytical and organized mind is actually very fond of making logs, lists, and things like that. People are already coming to me and asking questions about the community, and I'm always happy to answer them and lend them a helping hand. I like making people feel welcome and appreciated for the things they do, and that kind of attitude really helps them feel like they're part of something great. To make them feel that way is always my intention.

</nobr></td></tr><tr><td>How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter? I have always tried my best to sort all the applications every week, every month. Besides taking a hiatus once during my time here, I have always been a Top Sorter every single week. I enjoy sorting people into their various Houses, but my heart always skips a beat whenever a potential Slytherin is suddenly spotted in an application. Since Slytherin seems to be the most difficult House to get into, it is always an extra special moment to see someone with the potential to become a member of this great fraternity.

How would you handle a conflict/dispute?: I'm of the opinion that every side should always be heard. If a member has a complaint, or if a moderator has a complaint about a member, I will always do my outmost to find out both sides of the story. It is very important to be diplomatic in these kind of situations and think twice before you act, since a rash action can always reflect badly on the House as a whole when you are one of the main faces representing it. However, my loyalties will always lie with my House. If some sort of injustice is taking place, I would do whatever I can to sort things out as calmly as possible.

Sometimes, however, emotions can run high even in sorting communities, and if a member of my House would speak out of place, they would be warned and then reprimanded if it would happen again. My favourite method would be to take the respective person(s) aside and talk to them in private. I'm not fond of drama at all, and word usually travels fast in communities like these. The best thing to do is to resolve these kind of matters privately, and it also gives the respective parties the opportunity to tell their side of the story to me, and my co-Prefect. It's important to be kind and understanding in situations like these, because people are far more likely to cooperate if you're being reasonable instead of jumping down their throats. We Slytherins are very aware of how people see us in the community, and it's important for us to keep our face.
Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect? Because I love my House. Because even during tough times, I have always found myself back in the common room, loving my Housemates, motivating them and laughing with them. Because they're such like-minded people and I love and respect them. Slytherin is where I have found my true friends and now I feel like it's time for me to do something more for them. I have already been doing my best to encourage them and help them during my time here, and I feel like a Prefect position would help me do that even more. I'm a very organized individual and I'm an ambitious perfectionist, which really is quite a dangerous combination because I simply cannot admit defeat. My love for Slytherin and its members keeps me going in this community, and I hope that with their approval, I will continue to do that for many more months to come.

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? I recently took a position at hogwartsicons. Other than that, I haven't been a mod in HiH, but I've held quite a few other mod positions in various communities.

Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active? Honestly, the best way to keep a House active is to be active myself, both in the Common Room and around the community. But to be more specific: there are a lot of things that can be done to liven up a Common Room, and many things have already been implemented that I would like to keep running (the Slytherprompt, Snake Mafia Week, and house chat - which I really hope will get off the ground!). I have a lot of half-formed ideas that should be run by a co-prefect before being advertised, but I'll stick to the most important ones.

At some point, I got it into my head that the Malfoy's philosophy is to reward their child for their simple birthright and pureblood status, and expect them to seek out other rewards for what they do and the person that they make of themselves. I think that this philosophy could also be applied to the Common Room. First, I intend to make birthdays a bigger deal, perhaps with some kind of anonymous gift exchange every month (similar to anon fic and fanart exchanges that I've moderated in the past), which will make the celebration of a birthday an activity for the whole house (or at least a large portion of it). If for whatever reason the gifts could not be posted to any HiH communities for points, I would purchase points from Shpadoinkles myself.

Also, I think that our activity reminders should be balanced out with some appreciation of Slytherins who are being amazing. We have Slytherin's purest, but I'm thinking more along the lines of the way the Slytherin correspondent for the Prophet writes about all our victories. A prefectly post of appreciation for snakes who win, or for incredible Slytherin participation in an activity that brings home loads of points, plus the continuation of Slytherin's Purest to appreciate those who go above and beyond... maybe it's a little too sugar and spice and everything nice, but I really do think that my fellow Slytherins should get the positive attention and appreciation that they crave (and deserve).

How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house?

I'm currently out of school and unemployed, so for a while I'll probably be around pretty much all the time. But even when my schedule changes, although obviously RL priorities have to take precedence, I will always make time for my house. I have perfected the ability to do routine internet things even when I'm too tired to find my mouth with a fork, so I should be able to do these small things (at the very least) whenever I get on the internet.
</nobr></td></tr><tr><td>How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter?

If I'm not a top sorter, it pretty much means that I haven't had access to the internet or a computer. XD I've been a top sorter almost every single week since I was sorted myself, if not all. I view sorting as the very least I can do for my house, so I make a real effort to sort every single application that gets dropped even if I have no energy to participate in other activities that week.

How would you handle a conflict/dispute?:

Calm logic is usually enough to bring some sense of reason to conflicts or disputes over rules and the like. As for interpersonal disputes... I like think of Slytherin as the house of diplomats, or at the very least people who are smart enough to solve their own problems most of the time. That said, problems do arise. I am a diplomat and a problem solver, and I really dislike drama; I would attempt to handle the problem between Slytherins as quickly and quietly as possible. The way I see it, it's the prefect's job to support the individuals in their house, but not to the detriment of other members or the house as a whole; on the large, inter-house conflict scale, the prefect is responsible for both standing up for their house's interests AND working to ensure that the whole community runs smoothly. Large conflicts often can't be solved by one moderator alone, but I'd do my part to the best of my ability.

Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect?

Slytherins are strong-willed people who can be united (with incredible results) under good leaders, and the house has benefited from having strong and active prefects over the last few terms. It might be my pride talking, but I think I would do well following in their footsteps. I want to do my part to help my house and my fellow Slytherins on the way to victory.
