Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? yes, 1 term & club leader for 2+ terms
Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active? Theme weeks, Secret Agent Missions (expanding the current SAB missions in various ways), memes, quizzes, social posts, movie discussions, various trivia and discussions as well as games and non-points contests. Our common room is fairly quiet but I would like to change that. I would like to start doing weekly or biweekly points recaps, making a post of people that participate frequently and that place so that we can congratulate our housemates and be inspired to participate more.
How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house? I am online pretty much all the time, I can take of any questions and official business whenever it arises unless I happen to be asleep
How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter? I am nearly always a top sorter. In the last term I have missed one week and I was sick that week.
How would you handle a conflict/dispute?: That depends on who is involved and what it is about. In general I think most conflicts can be solved simply by talking. My first step is always going to be finding out both sides of the story and getting the parties involved to talk it out. If they aren't able to talk it out on their own then I would step in and mediate. We have a chat room that can be used as a place for conflict to be solved or there are various other ways, MSN and the like. It is important to settle the conflicts within our house before they create a lot of drama.
Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect? I want to help Hufflepuff become friendly and united. We haven't won the house cup in a long time, we haven't even been in the running. To me it isn't vital to our fun that we win the cup but it is vital to me that we have fun while we give it our best shot. It doesn't seem to me that there has been a lot of fun in the last month for us and I would like to change that. Sometimes i feel like people decide to appeal or not be active when they look at the common room and see how dead it is or they see how low our points are, I can't change everything by myself but I want to help us to be the friendly welcoming house that I found when I joined.

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? No officials positions yet, but I do manage a Flourish shop and a club, and I was co-mod of my (awesome) team during the Search for the Stone activity; all of which give me bits and pieces of experience I find necessary for such an important position such as Prefect.
And while experience in being a prefect itself would be nice, I'm a fast learner and would get the hang of things super easy and be wonderful and awesome while doing it (why yes I am blowing my own horn ;D).

Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active?
We've had lots of luck with weekly themes lately, so I would definitely love to continue those. There's lots of opportunities within the themes for social posts from not only myself, but other badgers -- something I would definitely encourage.

I also think it would be great if we had other random activities, regardless of if they could be for points (I'm sure others would love to take part in some anyway!). For example, I'd love maybe once every few weeks to post a Tag Brainstorming post where users could give ideas for sigtags that they'd love to see or make, or even get input from the sigtags they already have in their shops (respectfully, of course). Likewise, perhaps brainstorming story prompts for those that like writing more -- maybe a story exchange where users could then submit the stories they write to one another at [info]hh_sugarquill. We could even do the same for [info]hogwartsicons, making up our own icon/banner/wallpaper prompts and ideas.

I think it would also be good if their was more talk about Quidditch, maybe making more often posts regarding how fun it is. I think it would be wonderful if there could be something the Quidditch captain and the prefects could do to raise enthusiasm about the games, though at the moment I can't think of what.

For a bit we had a Twitter going, but it's a bit covered in cobwebs now. I would love to get that active again, as I'm sure many of the newer puffs have a Twitter account. Random reminders regarding high-point opportunity activities, sorting reminders Saturday afternoons, maybe even having an HiH/HP Lexicon scavenger hunt through messages! That would be lots of fun! Like, maybe ending it with the opportunity to get something special, like a custom, well, something. XD

We definitely have lots of Disney fans in Hufflepuff, and I think it would be really fun to turn that in to a group activity of sorts. It could be biweekly with previously voted on movies to watch "together", discussing it after. We could schedule it so that one week we watch it, next week we discuss it. It'll allow for those with busy real lives to still be included. And even outside of that, they'd be movies many people have already seen so there could still be participation from those who didn't get a chance to watch it! (Obviously it wouldn't have to be Disney, as long as it's appropriate for everyone.)
And if it's popular enough, maybe we could do the same thing monthly with books! :D

Another non-point activity I'd love to do, maybe once a month, is a Get To Know You activity. We all get to know new members, but they never really get the chance to know that much about users who have been around along time. Each month maybe a different survey or meme asking questions about one another. I think it would be great to raise enthusiasm for Hufflepuff, as well as make it easier for people to create friendships.
Some time ago there was talk regarding opening a points 'shop' or sorts for users who participated in a certain amount of things getting to accumulate "points" in order to get things made for them, whether they're icons or sigtags or blinkies. It would be completely separate from the other things, of course, but just a bit something extra for taking part in activities. I think I would really love to get that started, since I think it would give some users who don't normally participate in point-earning activities more reason to -- which would mean more points for Hufflepuff! PUFFS FOR THE CUP!

We don't normally have any debates or discussions in the puff house, and I think that might be a fun and interesting thing to get started as well. Maybe a discussion on stereotypes of Hufflepuff, perhaps concentrating on how to break down those stereotypes as false (would be especially helpful, I think, in lowering the number of Hufflepuff appeals that occur).

How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house?
I love answering questions and doing little things to keep myself busy. I practically live on the internet, so I'd be able to answer questions basically as soon as they're asked -- unless I'm sleeping; even I need to do that.

The internet, basically, is what I BREATHE and because of that I'm always online, refreshing my friends page every few minutes or so. BELIEVE ME THOUGH, it isn't as pathetic as it sounds... Possibly. Ha ha.

As far as sorting logs, I would probably become super obsessive about it. Having lots of top sorters is great not only for the individual but also for the house, so keeping on top of things there would be very, very important.

How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter? I've been top sorted since joining. I make sure to sort through the applications eack week.

How would you handle a conflict/dispute?:
Screening comments has been a favorite response from many lately, and with good reason; to handle a conflict efficiently you need to first stop where it is right now before you can look at how it started, who is involved, and how it should be solved. Freezing comments, also, is a helpful tool. After that first step, I would look at what has occurred. Why did it start? Who is it between? I wouldn't pick favorites -- something I pride myself on being able to successfully handle -- but handle based on the incident itself. I would warn any and all parties of their behavior, explain why it was not acceptable, and let them off with a warning to not happen again.

I am a firm believer in second chances, however if it continues beyond that (or if the situation is extreme, such as racial or sexual slurs being used, or something COMPLETELY NOT RIGHT -- not that I can imagine anyone in this community doing that) I would inform those above me of the situation because sometimes it is best to go to someone else for help. I do like to avoid getting to that step though, and would prefer to handle things on my own instead of worry someone who already has so much to do.

Also, I do think apologies should be in order no matter what the situation. I know this may seem pretty silly, but the best ending to any argument is a heartfelt "I'm sorry this got out of control, let's be friends, here's a cupcake." While I obviously can't force users to do this, I would remind them that it would be appreciated -- but only once they have completely calmed down and thought about how they made others feel. (I don't mean to sound like a schoolteacher, honest! It's just an important part, that's all!)

If the situation encompassed much of HiH, I think maybe a post regarding it in the common room would be nice. Besides posting one refreshing people on the rules about playing fair, there's a couple ways I could post a thread concentrating more on the group as a whole (and not just a reminder, but something interactive to bring us all back together).

  • A post where we can discuss the situation - respectfully, of course. I would only use this if I really felt it were necesarry, though. While it's nice for people to get the entire story, or get their feelings completely out, it may raise feelings of hurt in others. At the same time, ignoring the situation would not make it go away. Which is where the second, more likely successful way comes in to play;

  • I would make a "Let's Stick Together" post where users could sort of have a free for all with what they wanted to post, as long as it was friendly. They could either say something nice about another Hufflepuff, or show pictures of something cute, or do anything else really to try and raise spirits. :D

Perhaps I could even do both. If need be with the first I could always screen comments as they come in and unscreen the ones that remain respectful towards everyone.

Overall, the most important part of any conflict is returning to that feeling of happiness and friendship that embodies HiH. While the actual conflict solving is important - and I will concentrate a lot on that, don't get me wrong - I also think it's important to make sure that in the end everything is sorted out and no one has hurt feelings.

Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect?

I think I would be great at it, for one thing. I wouldn't be applying if I wasn't determined to be a great prefect. I have more than enough time to dedicate to the position, and more than enough creativity to come up with great activities - ones with point earning opportunities and ones without.

There's lots of things I want to see happen within Hufflepuff. I think it would be a good thing to start the term fresh, perhaps with a new layout - ours, though nice, is a bit outdated compared to the layouts throughout the rest of HiH. Also, it may make newer puffs a bit more thrilled to be sorted with us if we have shiny new graphics to show off! :D

I want to get Hufflepuff back on top. It may be challenging to do, but there's so many wonderful people in the house - and our new badgers are so great and active - that I think it's really possible! I think what we need is just a bit of motivation, a little push, and I would love to be the one to take control of that and help as best I can.

I have pride in my house and would love to instill that pride in other Hufflepuffs. Hopefully I've properly shown that I have many ideas for the house, and my enthusiasm for it as well! I am determined to make the most of it, and peppy enough to push the house towards victory. (And if not victory, delicious cupcakes and wonderful friendships!)

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms?
Yes, I've held an official position for 4 terms.
Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active?
I just want more atmosphere in the common room! It's been much too quiet around there lately and we need picture memes, quizzes, Hufflepuff parties and just in general a lower threshold for posting in the common room. It seems like many people are almost afraid to post something, and I really don't want that. I want everyone to post what they like and make the common room fun!

I also find Sunday to be the most boring day of the week and I therefore propose having Super Badger Sundays, where we can litter the common room with Fake Hufflepuff Tweets entries, icon conversations, gift exchanges, caption contests, an entry about our weekly shenanigans, etc. And I will do this even if I have to keep icon conversations with myself, dammit!
How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house?
I'm online every day and when I'm not at uni, I should be very available to update logs and answer questions and be prefectly.
How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter?
I always seem to miss out one week cause of forgetfulness/procrastination/offline things, so it's usually 3 out of 4 weeks these days. But I really do try to remember XD
How would you handle a conflict/dispute?:
If it's a disagreement between members, I would try to talk to both sides and try to figure out if it was just a minor thing or if it's a larger issue. If it's a larger issue, I'd try to mediate between them and find a solution. If it became a long term thing, I would probably request assistance from the main mods. It's best that drama in general is killed as quickly as possible, so freezing and screening comments quickly could also be an option.

All this would be while keeping communication with the co-prefect, of course :)
Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect?

Because we need a facelift, guys! Or maybe facelift isn't the right word, but we need to find the community in the house again. Lately I feel like we've been a bunch of people lumped in the same community, but not actually being a community. I want us to have fun as a house again and I want to help to make that happen as prefect.

Have you ever held an officials position in HiH? If so, how many terms? yes, 3 terms.. maybe 4 can't remember
Beyond Sorting Logs and In-House contests, what kinds of activities/discussions will you use to help keep your Common Room active?I like the idea of theme weeks like we've had in the past. I would like to see them become a regular thing this term. That would also include social posts that coincide with the "theme" for that week. I also like the SAB missions and would like to see them continue as well as the participation contest that goes on every month. however with the last item I'd like to see a "shop" of sorts be made where people can "buy" certain things (like blinkies, sigtags, art by a certain fan artist, fanfic and various other things) with the points they make in and around HiH. I'd also like to see a place on the profile to list the puffs who've won things like badger of the month or something. Somewhere besides a post that gets buried where they get a little glory and fame. I'd also like to see the layout changed and updated a bit. I know it's only been there a few months but a new term is always the time for a new look, imo.
How often will you be able to check/update the sorting log and/or be around to answer questions for members of your house?I'm usually around my computer 30+ hours a week. I work at home and can always be found around my computer.
How often do you sort applications? In an average month, how often are you a Top Sorter? I'm usually a top sorter every month. I believe I've missed one week since I was sorted to the puff house 2 years ago
How would you handle a conflict/dispute?:If possible I would confer with my co prefect to come to the best course of action. I'd also use pm's or emails so that any drama was kept out of the community. It's not usual that the puff house has drama with-in it. If it was a situation where someone was complaining about another member I would go to the member quietly and basically give them a heads up. If the situation was something that was more serious than that and my co-prefect and I couldn't come to a good decision then I'd ask the opinions of the main HiH mods.
Why are you interested in being a prefect/co-prefect?I love the puff house and want to see them take the cup this term. We have a lot of great badgers and I want to see us come in at another place than last. Our members have a lot to offer HiH and each other and I want a part in it.
